Holiday outdoor markets have been on the rise in Manhattan since the dawn of the 21st century. While some date back many years, some are relatively new.
Shopping at holiday markets alone, with friends, or with the kids gives folks a chance to enjoy the fruits of their labor and satisfy some of their yearnings and some of the yearnings of those we love.
Each of the Manhattan holiday markets is a bit different, as some are organized by community groups and others by business organizations. Oftentimes one can find artisanal products that are made in NYC or NYS.
Manhattan Holiday Markets Getting Underway
The Manhattan holiday markets get underway shortly after Halloween, with some coming opening up about the time of Thanksgiving. The Manhattan holiday markets are located in or near the following Manhattan neighborhoods - the Upper East Side UES, the Upper West Side UWS, Midtown NYC, the East Village, the West Village, the Bowery, SoHo, Tribeca, Lower East Side, Harlem, Inwood and Washington Heights. Many either include the serving of some beverage like hot chocolate and generally snacks like cookies - or are near food vendors and restaurants.

The following is a compendium of holiday markets in Manhattan. The markets usually begin popping up just after Halloween and run up to Christmas and beyond. The latest of them ends early / mid January.

I. Manhattan Holiday Markets 2017 - Midtown NYC
Grand Central Holiday Market / Grand Central Holiday Fair Midtown NYC
November 13 - Dec 24, 2017
* Located in Vanderbilt Hall on the south end of Grand Central Station at 89 East 42nd Street and Park Avenue - in the entrance halls / foyer.
This holiday market in Manhattan Midtown began in 1993, and now has 40 vendors occupying half of historic Vanderbilt Hall throughout the holidays selling artwork, clothing, accessories, clothing, toys and home goods.
Open Mon - Fri 10 am - 8 pm, Sat 10 am - 7 pm & Sun 11 am - 7 pm. Thanksgiving & Christmas eves closed 6 pm and closed Thanksgiving Day.

Bryant Park Holiday Shops - Midtown Manhattan
October 28, 2017 - January 2, 2018
* Located in Bryant Park at 42nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues in Midtown.
This Manhattan holiday market began in 2002 with about 80 shops, the skating rink opened in 2005 and today you'll find about 150 boutiques offering gifts, apparel and foods - oftentimes made by local NYC and NYS artisans.
Open Monday - Friday 11 am - 8 pm & Sat & Sun 10 am - 8 pm. Many Shops are also open on major holidays

II. Manhattan Holiday Markets 2017 - Upper East Side UES
Holy Trinity Yorkville Holiday Exhibit & Sale - Upper East NYC
Friday, Saturday & Sunday, December 8 - 10, 2017
* The Manhattan holiday market is located in Draesel Hall in the Church of the Holy Trinity at 316 East 88th Street.
The 5th Annual Yorkville Holiday Exhibit & Sale returns to the Upper East Side. They sell hand crafted gifts including ceramics, jewelry, textiles, accessories, photography, home décor, edibles and more by exhibiting artists. Complimentary drinks and refreshments served throughout the weekend. Manhattan holiday markets on the Upper East Side NYC.
Opening reception Friday night with complimentary wine and nibbles from 5 to 8 pm. On Saturday, from 10 am - 6 pm, and Sunday 10 am to 3 pm.
III. Manhattan Holiday Markets 2017 - Upper West Side UWS
Upper West Side Holiday Markets
Columbus Circle Holiday Market UWS
November 28 - December 24, 2017
* Located where 59th Street, Central Park West and Broadway meet on the Upper West Side.
The market includes a number of unique offerings such as handmade wooden puzzles, artisan chocolates, locally made accessories and jewelry, clothing and food and drink. The market is managed by UrbanSpaceNYC in conjunction with the Central Park Conservancy, the Lincoln Center BID and the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation.
The Manhattan holiday market at Columbus Circle was open from 11 am - 8 pm, except on Sunday when they closed at 7 pm last year. The dates have been confirmed, and likely the times will remain the same, but as of this posting have not yet been confirmed.

IV. East Village / West Village Holiday Markets & Events

Union Square Holiday Market in the Village NYC
November 21 - December 24, 2017
* On the southern end of Union Square Park along 14th Street between Park Avenue and Union Square West / University Place in the Village.
This Manhattan holiday market is organized by UrbanSpaceNYC in collaboration with the Union Square Partnership and and the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation.
The holiday market at Union Square Park runs through December 24th from 10 am - 8 pm, except Sundays 11 am - 7 pm. The dates have been confirmed, and likely the times will remain the same, but as of this posting have not yet been confirmed.
V. SoHo & Tribeca Holiday Markets - Downtown NYC
Downtown Manhattan Holiday Markets in Tribeca, SoHo & Lower East Side
Hester Street Fair at South Street Seaport Holiday Market
November 25 - December 24, 2017
* Located inside at 117 Beekman Street on the Lower East Side just north of the South Street Seaport in Downtown Manhattan.
This Manhattan holiday market includes handmade clothing, artisanal gifts, chocolates, food and beverages - some of which is made and / or sold by local artisans, with about three dozen vendors participating. This downtown Manhattan market began in 2016 by the folks who organize the seasonal Hester Street Fair on the Lower East Side.
They were open from 11 am - 8 pm daily last year. We believe the hours will generally be the same, but as of this post they have not been confirmed.
Dec 1 - 31: South Street Seaport Holiday Market Manhattan NYC
[UNCONFIRMED] Runs all month on Fulton between Water and Front Streets.
VI. Harlem & Washington Heights
