Summer is in full swing. A number of community groups in collaboration with the NYC Parks Department and frequently some measure of government funding, have put together a summer full of films and free summer movies in the parks. The foreign films and free movies listed below are designed for young and old alike and they're FREE.

Last year they had a reduced venue due to CoVid, mostly streamed video via Lincoln Center, sprinkled with a few live events held at the Asia Society on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. This year [2022] they're back with live events and in person screenings at the Asia Society & Museum on the Upper East Side.

* The Intrepid - Free Summer Movies on the Intrepid in Manhattan NYC

Free Films on the Flight Deck of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in West Midtown NYC

Location. The Intrepid is a floating museum / old aircraft carrier and it is located along the Hudson River at 46th Street and 12th Avenue / the West Side Highway.

Notes. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis and space is limited. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets to view the films outdoors, free of charge, on a huge inflatable screen on the flight deck. Light concessions will be sold onsite, and visitors are encouraged to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages. Alcohol is not permitted. All exits are final; there is no reentry allowed. Movie will begin at sunset. The Space Shuttle Pavilion will close at 8 pm. The bridge will be closed during free fridays. All movies will have open captions.

• Location. East River Park is located along the East River in the Bowery / Lower East Side, just south of the Williamsburg Bridge and East Village. The Amphitheater in East River Park is located between the FDR and East River and between [south] of Grand Street and east of Jackson Street. It's where the coastline along the East River turns north when going north.

  For motorists - At the East River Park Amphitheater in John V. Lindsay East River Park at Grand Street exit between Cherry & Jackson.

  As of July 2022 - This park is undergoing reconstruction due to its low elevation and proximity to the East River. It's become a part of the East Side Coastal Resiliency Project. The last event was held earlier in the summer of 2021 and thereafter programming ceased as reconstruction began. The Amphitheater itself was reportedly torn down in December of 2021. Stay tuned for updates, but nothing is expected to return in 2022.
