February Parades & Cultural Festivals in Manhattan NYC 2026

  • Cancelled _ February 2025 - Winter Carnival - at and around the Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. This event has not happened since 2020.  No explanation has been given by the NYC Parks Department.  But that said, because we no longer get a snowfall that stays on the ground, it's likely this event is a permanent casualty of climate change. Thank you oil companies and drivers of large gas guzzling vehicles that carry only one person most of the time.
    • This a winter themed event including skiing, sledding, dodgeball, ice bowling and other wintry sports. As we've really not had any snow this winter, the Parks Department had arranged to have snow machines there to provide what Mother Nature is no longer giving us in 2024, but then reconsidered. This year [2025] it was almost not even discussed.
  • Wednesday, January 29, 2025 beginning at 11 am - Chinese New Year Firecracker Celebration - at Sara D Roosevelt Park along Chrystie Street near Grand Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. For details see - https://welcometochinatown.com/news/lny-events-in-chinatown-2025

About 20 groups of Lion dancers parade around Chinatown blessing and eating offerings. NYCFAC is only one of the 20 plus groups and each is responsible for obtaining the 5th Precinct parade permit. This is a good chance to mingle with the Lion Dancers vs the Chinese New Year Parade next weekend 2/16 where attendees are held behind the NYPD barricades. For details see - https://www.facebook.com/ChineseFreemasons/ or https://www.liondance211.org/supersaturday
  • Sunday, February 16, 2025 beginning at 1 pm - 27th Chinese Lunar New Year Parade - "... starts at Hester and Mott Streets ending on Broome Street near Sara D. The cultural / merchandise / food booths are on Bayard Street between Mott and Mulberry in Chinatown in Manhattan. For details see - https://betterchinatown.com
    • This info is from 2024 which is a bit more in-depth and as the source quoted above is new to me, I'm not 100% sure of it. There are festival booths on Bayard Street between Mott and Mulberry Streets. The parade route is as follows - Begins at Mott & Canal to Chatham Square to East Broadway towards the Manhattan Bridge, completing on Eldridge and Forsyth Streets towards Grand Street next to Sara D. Roosevelt Park. For details & a map see - https://betterchinatown.com/lny-parade/.
