Jamaica MTA Subway Station & LIRR Terminal
Jamaica is a Huge Queens Transportation Hub
Spring 2014 / Jamaica Neighborhood / Manhattan Hotels / Manhattan Buzz. Continued.
As mentioned in the introduction, the Jamaica Train Station in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens is the busiest transportation hub in Queens and all of Long Island.
The Jamaica railway and subway station serves as the main hub for outgoing and incoming Long Island Railroad [LIRR] trains to and from all points on Long Island - save the Port Washington line. At the Jamaica station, passengers must invariably switch trains prior to ending up in Penn Station in NYC.
Changes are afoot for Long Island Railway passengers, as there is a major construction project underway to enable passengers to get off on the east side of Manhattan at Grand Central Station, in lieu of ending up on the west side of Manhattan at Penn Station [where things currently stand].

The Jamaica railway / subway station also provides connections from JFK Airport to the NYC subway lines at the Sutphin Blvd / Archer Ave / JFK Airport stop.
From this station incoming JFK Airport passengers can connect from the JFK Airtain to the E subway line which travels through Queens into Manhattan NYC. The J and Z lines also travel through Queens into Brooklyn and Manhattan, but the E provides the most frequent service and is express.
The connections to JFK airport via the Air Train was completed in 2006, in tandem with major renovations to the Jamaica train station. The Jamaica NY station is adjacent to a major MTA bus terminal for many bus lines throughout the southern and eastern neighborhoods of Queens.
The Jamaica neighborhood has been a railway hub and host to the train station for over 150 years.
