Mother's Day is soon upon us. It's a good day to let your wife or mother or daughter know you appreciate their efforts in the most important role of their lives. Flowers, gifts and brunch or dinner are always welcome, as is any thoughtful gesture that provides some measure showing your recognition of her efforts in her role as mother of some children. After all, without mothers, we would all cease to be.
It's best to book a restaurant reservation early for Mother's Day brunch, as on Mother's Day in Manhattan, many restaurants are full. So if you're thinking about eating out at a restaurant this Mother's Day on the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Midtown Manhattan, the East or West Village, SoHo, Tribeca or Downtown NYC; it's best to do your research early, and call ahead to book Mother's Day restaurant reservations.
Remember, restaurants also have additional capacity since the pandemic, via all of those outdoor shanties built during the pandemic, which greatly increased overall space / seating capacity. And with the weather warming - the temperature is expected to be around 60 degrees on Mothers Day without a 50% chance of about 1/10th inch of rain as of this post, so outdoor dining is likely still a good option.

The origins of Mother's Day in the United States began with the efforts by Anna Jarvis to honor her own mother. According to Wikipedia, Anna began the campaign in 1905 - the year her mother died - and in 1910 West Virginia was the first state to adopt Mothers Day as a holiday. In 1914 Woodrow Wilson made the second Sunday in May as a national holiday to honor mothers.

* Cesca's troubles began sometime in 2020 seeming to occur in tandem with the pandemic. It's now at least one and a half years later. The telephone number for the restaurant is disconnected, the phone number for the group than ran the restaurant is an electronic dead end, and the website domain name is for sale. So if they ever return, it's likely to be totally reinvented, as the closure was accompanied with litigation. It's a shame, as it was a fun, well run restaurant with delicious food.
Le Monde French Restaurant - Mothers Day on the UWS Manhattan

* The phone number works, but I found it useless as it referred me to the website. On the website the pick up ordering "is closed". And you have to set up an account to rsvp. And there weren't any hours of operation. So while they haven't announced that they are closed, it sure seems like they are.

* They have fully reopened from 11 am to 3 pm and from 3 pm to 8 pm - seating folks indoors and outdoors. This is a great destination, but it has just come through some tumultuous times, so you should rsvp.

Description. Water Club Restaurant - Mothers Day Restaurants & Parties Along the East River at the East River and about 35th Street. There is also generally a boat or two departing from the nearby dock.

El Rio Grande - Mothers Day Restaurants Midtown NYC
Description. El Rio Grande is a Tex Mex restaurant in Murray Hill on 38th Street & Third Avenue in midtown. The entrance is between 3rd Avenue and Lexington on the south side of the street in the ground floor of a large apartment building. El Rio Grande serves killer margaritas, thick crunchy chips and a pretty good Tex / Mex dinner.

Rooftop at the Royalton Park Avenue - Mothers Day Restaurants Midtown NYC
Description. Rooftop at the Royalton was the Gansevoort only a couple of years ago. The rooftop bar and restaurant offers worthwhile views and the food while the Gansevoort was excellent.

Description. Casa Lever is located in the first glass and steel skyscraper in Manhattan built in 1955. The restaurant offers fine dining and the food was quite good the last time I was there, albeit a long while ago.

* They finally reopened on March 17, 2022. The downtown NYC restaurants have taken a bit longer to reopen, because many Wall Street firms continued to work remotely. They're now open daily, including Mothers Day, from 11.30 am - 9.30 pm. This place has great views.
